WOW, is about the only way to describe the fun. Held every
September 21st @ the Bagnell-Dome in Bagnell @7pm.
The plush
appointments of the amphitheater were supplied by Stuart X, former owner of the
now named 'Santa Anita Lodge'. Leather high back chairs, smoking jackets and vast
amounts of taxidermy displays brought an ambiance to the proceedings. The sound
system was provided by the rock group Blind Lemon, their roadies did a magnificent
job setting up the stage. The crowd of thousands was duly impressed.
Tellers of TALL TALES from all over the world competing in the ultimate TALL TALES
TELL OFF.
There was a full slate of TALES from the likes of "city
council Sue", Ray "spiderman" Hamilton, Mark Twain, William "jeff"
Clinton just to mention some of the many who participated. The crowd was filled
with a list of who's who in the entertainment field, with luminaries such as;
Hollywood Stuntman & Producer Jack Gill, with his elegant wife Morgan, 15
time NHRA Funny Car Champion John 'brute' Force, Bill 'the spin stops here' O'Reilly,
members of City Council, some folks from Los Angeles, Flora Dell, lead singer
from the group 'the Agness Five' and so many more. The

| | The
trophy made in 2002 by World renowned artist: S.K. Hughes of Bagnell,
Oregon is made of locally harvested Myrtlewood.
Standing almost three feet high it includes an antique mail pouch containing copies
of winners names and their tall tales. Also included is the local paper heralding
the winners of that years event.
Each year the trophy is passed on to
the next winner. And is required to be placed in a place available for public
viewing. The show started of
with the musical talents of the BEACH BELLES. Their rendition of the classic
Jimmy Hendricks from Woodstock playing the National Anthem was spectacular
to say the least. Who knew that those types of sounds could come from a piano. Celebrity
Security was provided by; E.
C. Manning Risk Mitigation Services. They also provided
protection for the celebrity look-a-likes, they kept the ballots secret until
the last minute and guarded the prize monies as well as the traveling trophy.
No shots were fired. Although there will be
some arrests forthcoming. All
involved did a great job under the guidance of WALT, BERNICE & RAFE
T. along with the FRIENDS of HATHAWAY JONES committee. This
reporter plans on being there again next year, AND SO SHOULD YOU !
This is a must see event. Next
years event will be held at Madison Square Gardens, Candelstick Park, weather
depending, so be sure to check on-line with the TallTalesGazette.com
for further updates and a last minute change of venue. |
